Project Overview

Foremarket is a platform where users trade predictions on real-world events (e.g., "Will Company X launch Product Y by Q3?"). The core challenge: prediction markets involve complex concepts—probabilities, odds, liquidity, and settlement rules—that overwhelm new users and erode trust when presented poorly. Most existing platforms felt like trading terminals, not tools for informed decision-making.

The task was to design an interface that helps users: • Understand what they're betting on and what they stand to gain/lose—in plain language • Track active positions without anxiety (e.g., avoid misleading "paper profit" displays) • Confidently place trades with clear confirmation of risks • Feel secure that markets resolve fairly (transparency around rules and timelines) Constraints: high-stakes decisions, emotionally charged outcomes, and the need to balance simplicity for beginners with depth for experienced traders.

Design Process

1. Research: Analyzed competitor apps; found confusion around settlement rules and hidden fees were top reasons for abandoned trades.
2. Structure: Mapped two core flows—discovering markets and managing positions—and simplified steps.
3. Wireframes: Tested layout options for market cards; settled on outcome-first hierarchy (event → probability → your stake) instead of data-dense tables.
4. UI Design: pplied WCAG contrast for chart readability; used subtle animation only for state changes (e.g., position updates)—no decorative motion that distracts from numbers.
5. Validation: Ran usability tests on trade confirmation screens; iterated until 100% of testers could correctly state their max loss before submitting.
